The Taliban forces carried out a raid on the house of Mohammad Moradi, a former militia commander, in Lal-e-Sarjangal district of western Ghor province on Sunday, June 26, killing him and his two daughters, a local source said.
Moradi’s son was also wounded in the attack, and the Taliban forces detained three more people, according to the source who spoke on the condition of anonymity for safety reasons.
In a statement posted on Facebook, the Taliban’s Ghor governor office confirmed the group’s fighters carried out the raid, killing Moradi and his five men, and wounding his son. The statement also added that the clashes started after Moradi refused to surrender.
The statement doesn’t mention the killing of Moradi’s two daughters.
The attack on Moradi’s house was carried out in Chahar Asyab village of Lal-e-Sarjangal district on Sunday evening, the source said. One of Moradi’s daughters was killed in the raid, and the other, who was wounded, succumbed to her injuries on the way to the hospital. The fate of the three detainees were unknown, he said.
Moradi’s dead daughters were identified as 27-year-old Tajgul, and 13-year-old Zarin. His wounded son’s name is Hassan, the source added.
The Taliban accused Moradi of cooperating with Mawlawi Mahdi Mujahid, the Taliban’s only Shia Hazara commander. The Taliban staged a large-scale attack against Mahdi Mujahid and his fighters in Balkhab district of northern Afghanistan after he parted ways with the group recently.
There have been numerous reports of summary executions by the Taliban in Balkhab, according to international human rights organizations and media reports.
