Zarifa Yaqubi, a women’s rights activist, who was arrested by the Taliban along with her four male colleagues six weeks ago, is released on Monday, December 12, her relatives confirm to Rukhshana Media.
Her colleagues, however, are still in Taliban custody.
A source, who spoke on condition of anonymity, tells Rukhshana Media that Ms. Yaqubi was released with the Shiites Dispute Resolution Commission’s assistance.
Sayed Mohsen Hussaini, a member of the Commission, tells Rukshana Media that they went to the Taliban’s National Directorate of Security and brought her to their office.
He says that Ms. Yaqubi is now in the Commission’s office and waiting for her family to accompany her to her home.
The Taliban intelligence arrested Ms. Yaqubi and her colleagues on November 3 from a press conference in west Kabul.
The “Shiites Dispute Resolution Commission” says they are trying to release the rest of the women’s rights activists who are in Taliban custody.
Another source, who also spoke on condition of anonymity, tells Rukshana Media that Ms. Yaqubi is released on the condition not to speak to the media and reporters.
Three other women’s rights activists, including Farhat Popalzai, Humaira Yosuf, and Parwin Sadaat are still in Taliban custody whose whereabouts are still unknown.
