Moreover, 20 men accused of adultery and robbery were lashed 35 to 39 times at a stadium in Laskargah, the capital city of Helmand province on Wednesday, December 14, according to Mawlawi Qasim Reyaz, the Taliban’s head of Information and Culture of the province.

The Taliban carried out the death penalty of a man convicted of murder last week in the country’s first public execution since they regained power in mid-August last year.

The public floggings have intensified after Mawlawi Hebatullah Akhundzada, the Taliban supreme leader, ordered the implementation of full enforcement of Islamic Sharia law last month.
