The family of a teenage girl, who suffers from a neurological disorder, is keeping her in a cage in Kandahar province.
Aysiya, an 18-year-old girl, was diagnosed with the disease 15 years ago.
Jan Agha, the father of Asiya, said his daughter’s illness became severe four years ago, and the family has no choice but to imprison her in a cage occasionally.
Jan Agha said he puts Asiya in the cage when she becomes violent, and attack others.
He said he took his daughter to the hospitals in Kandahar and Quetta, but the treatment has proven ineffective. Doctors told him to take Asiya to hospitals in Karachi or India. But he said he can’t afford it.
Zuhair Ahmad Zandani, head of Enabled Children Initiative, an organization that helps people with disabilities in Afghanistan, said the organization is ready to pay for Asiya’s medical treatment overseas.
Dr. Amanullah Aziz, a neurologist, said Asiya suffers from schizophrenia (MPD), a type of neurological disease that can be partially cured.
