Female students at northern Jawzjan University say the Taliban have ordered them to fully cover their faces and wear a veil when they are on campus and in their classrooms.
The decision was made in a meeting held between deans of Jawzjan University on Sunday, August 28.
Starting from Monday female students aren’t allowed to enter the university without wearing face veil, said a female student who spoke on the condition of anonymity.
“Even during the lectures, we should wear a veil,” she said. “It doesn’t matter if the lecturer is a woman or a man.”
She added that the students have been warned to be directly expelled from the university, if they disobey the order.
“When you are done with lectures, you should not walk around the campus and you should not use smartphones,” she said female students were told by her school’s dean, who said “you will be expelled” after receiving two warnings.
Female students, who wear colorful shoes, are also not allowed to enter the univeristy, according to her. They all have to put on black shoes.
The source also said that the university authorities told the girls that they shouldn’t wait outside the university for the transportation vehicles and that they should go home as soon as they leave the campus.
