Taliban arrest a woman and man for eloping

Taliban state-owned media, Bakhtar News Agency, reported the Taliban have detained a young woman, who fled Kabul, along with another young man, on her wedding day.

They fled Kabul to Jalalabad where both were arrested. Bakhtar posted their photos on Twitter, blurring their faces. The woman has confessed she fled on her wedding day.

“Investigation is underway,” Bakhtar tweeted.
Eloping wasn’t a crime under the previous government’s women laws. But the Taliban have invalidated all those laws. They have stoned to death or lashed women detained for eloping in the past.
