The Taliban have closed a health institute in Bamyan province and jailed its director because students clapped and whistled during a graduation ceremony, according to multiple sources in the province.

A local source, who spoke anonymously, told Rukhshana Media that Baran Health Institute was closed on Friday and its director Nawid Mohammad was detained.

“During the institute’s graduation ceremony, especially during the Taliban governor’s speech, some participants clapped and occasionally whistled in joy and excitement. This behavior greatly displeased the governor, leading to the decision to seal the institute for an indefinite period,” the source said.

After the incident, some local elders intervened and requested the reopening of the institute. however, it has not been helpful, and the institute remains closed, according to the source.

Another local source, who also spoke on condition of anonymity, said that a significant number of Taliban members studied at the institute.
