A Taliban demining employee, first injured his wife in Sia Gerd district of Parwan province and then placed a mine on her stomach and detonated it on Wednesday, October 24, a local source in the province reports.
According to the source the incident happened at Darr-e-Qolyech area of Qaidkhana neighborhood of the province.
The source added that the suspect was identified as Khaja Mohammad who is an original resident of Kandahar province and the victim is a 35-year-old woman who was a mother of five.
Rukhshana Media reporter could interview family members or relatives of the victim despite several efforts. Local sources say that due to Taliban restrictions, people are afraid to talk to the media.
Meanwhile, Kamran Habibi, the Taliban’s spokesperson for Parwan’s police chief, confirmed the incident and added that the suspect is arrested and an investigation is underway.
Mr. Habibi said the motive behind the assassination is domestic violence.
Domestic violence has recently increased in Afghanistan. After the Taliban seized power in mid-August last year, the Taliban’s “de facto” administration dissolved institutions defending women’s rights, including the Ministry of Women’s Affairs and the Independent Human Rights Commission, and fired all women advocates, prosecutors, and judges.
