Taliban publicly whipped 48 people, including seven women, accused of moral crimes, robbery, embezzlement, drug trafficking, and sodomy at sports stadiums in Badakhshan and Uruzgan provinces on Thursday, December 22, reliable sources in the provinces report.
According to the sources, they were lashed 20 to 39 times and sentenced to five to 18 months.
Qari Agha Wali Quraishi, head of Information and Culture of the Taliban in Uruzgan province, says that the court has postponed the punishment of three other women until further notice.
Mr. Quraishi did not provide details about why their punishment was postponed.
Taliban mostly conduct public floggings and executions at sports stadiums and crowded areas.
