Nine people have been punished by flogging after being found guilty of various crimes in Taliban courts, the Taliban Supreme Court said.
In Faryab province, two men and a woman were sentenced for sexual crimes of adultery and running away from home, a Taliban Supreme Court newsletter released Monday said.
“One individual accused of adultery and making a woman run away [from home] was sentenced to two years and six months of prison in addition to 39 lashes. And two individuals (one woman and one man) accused of adultery and running away [from home] were each sentenced to one year of prison and 30 lashes,” the newsletter said.
In Khost province, six people received 39 lashes each after they were sentenced for fraud, another Taliban Supreme Court newsletter said.
The local court officials attended the floggings in both provinces, the newsletters said.
The Taliban have enforced corporal punishment across Afghanistan since regaining control of the country in 2021.
