The Taliban morality police have raided an educational center in Bamyan Province that was allowing girls to attend some classes and arrested the director, according to local sources.
The morality police entered Kawsar Danish educational center by force and dragged all female students out of the classes with threats and brandishing weapons, a source told Rukhshana Media.
The Taliban detained Kawsar Danish’s director and took him away, only releasing him on condition of a signed commitment letter that he would not allow female students to be taught again.
It’s understood the incident occurred after the Taliban were informed that some educational centers are still allowing girls to attend.
As many as four other educational centers in Bamyan are believed to have been similarly raided.
One of the sources says in some cases all students were told to leave and the educational centers doors were closed with a Taliban guard positioned at the gate.
Saeeda*, a 17-year-old student of Kawsar Danish educational center, told Rukhshana media, “Yesterday, when we were studying in Kawsar Danish, the Taliban entered our classroom in a very brutal manner and kicked us girls out of the classroom with insults and humiliation.”
“When we asked them why they were kicking us out of the class, a Taliban fighter pointed a gun at us and said, ‘Didn’t we forbid you to come to the courses again? But you shameless people still come in secret. You are taking society on the path of immorality.’”
Last month, the Taliban banned girls from attending all educational institutions and suppressed all peaceful protests of women and girls demanding the right to an education in provinces across Afghanistan.
