Representatives from the Taliban directorate of Virtue and Vice in northern Takhar province have asked local restaurant and hotel owners to not serve food to women without male chaperones, according to a letter seen by Rukhshana Media.
The letter from the Propagation of Virtue and Prevention of Vice directorate states that there should also be no food service during the call to prayer, and people should instead be going to attend prayers.
The reason for these decisions is “to dignify and chasten” society and to “eliminate the evils and establish virtues.”
Since the Taliban regained power in the country, they have increasingly encroached on the personal rights and freedoms, especially of women and girls.
