A woman was shot dead in her house and another died of suicide by self-poisoning in northern Faryab province on Sunday, November, 20, Taliban local officials report.

Hamidullah Botshekan, the Taliban spokesperson for Faryab police, told reporters today that an armed man entered the victim’s house at around 11:40 PM last night in Gurziwan district of the province and shot her dead with a Kalashnikov.

According to Botshekan, the victim is identified as Moeina Bibi, a resident of Frish village of the district, who lived with her uncle.

He said that earlier the victim was accused of adultery with a man named Esmatullah that both were acquitted by the Faryab Primary Court.

According to Botshekan, her husband who was in Iran at the time of her trial has no connection with the incident.

Meanwhile, Mawlawi Shamsuddin Mohammadi, the Taliban head of information and culture of Faryab province, told reporters that at around 2:00 PM yesterday, November 20, a woman died of suicide by consuming poisonous medicine in Shirin Tagab district of the province.

Mohammadi said that the victim was identified as 22-year-old Hajar, who was a resident of the district.

Mr. Mohammadi said it was being treated as a domestic violence case.

The suicide rate among women is on the rise since the Taliban took over.

Families and relatives of the victims are reluctant to talk to the media and reporters in many cases due the security reasons.
