Two children from a primary school in Herat have reportedly been kidnapped and raped.

A source from the provincial hospital, speaking on condition of anonymity, told Rukhshana Media the girls were just 11 or 12 years of age.

They were grabbed by two unknown men as they were walking to school from the Payin Aab area on Monday and forced into a vehicle resembling a Toyota Black Fielder.

The attackers later dumped them in the Pashtun Pol area in the center of Herat city.

The source said both girls were sexually assaulted.

On the same day, the body of a pregnant woman was brought to the hospital from the Farqa area of the center of Herat city.

The source said the victim was a 35-year-old named Sara who was stabbed to death by her stepson, who fled the area.

In recent days at least seven cases of murder and suicide of women and girls have been reported from Faryab, Badghis, Kunduz and Samangan provinces.

Previously, 16-year-old Zarmina, a resident of Sarband area of Firozkoh city, Ghor province, was shot dead while resisting sexual assault by a member of the Taliban group.

Since the Taliban took control of Afghanistan on August 15, 2021, women suffering from violence have faced serious obstacles in accessing justice due to the lack of a legal judicial system.

The Taliban dissolved the Ministry of Women’s Affairs,  the Afghanistan Independent Human Rights Commission and other institutions that supported women.
